Dit artikel is gemakkelijk te vinden via JSTOR. Dit artikel heb ik opgenomen omdat het in bijna alle andere artikels die op dit blog staan i.v.m. deze opdracht wordt gebruikt: een onvermijdelijk referentiepunt. Het vertegenwoordigt de klassieke manier van omgaan met het reductionismeprobleem in de biologie: van klassieke genetica naar moleculaire genetica.

Ik heb niet gezocht hoe dikwijls dit artikel becommentarieerd werd, maar men kan een deftige bespreking vinden in Curd - Cover 1998 (p. 1028-1044).

Het artikel zelf heeft geen abstract en de referenties werden alleen verwerkt in het notenapparaat. Dit maakt dat men vrij onhandig moet zoeken naar welke bronnen Kitcher heeft gebruikt. Schaftner, Nagel, Hull, Kuhn zijn hier bekende filosofen die we tegenkomen.
